Making Waves
The Milwaukee Wave's educational outreach program, Making Waves, utilizes three distinct modalities (in-school assemblies, Newspapers in Education curricula and School Day Games) throughout nine months to reach and repeat program objectives to students in southeastern Wisconsin schools as well as the greater population base. Making Waves is the largest, multi-faceted, multi-media community outreach program by a professional sports team in the state.
In 2008-09, the Making Waves assembly program was in over 70 southeast Wisconsin schools and in front of approximately 23,000 students as well as teachers, administrators and family members. The NIE sections, approved by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, reached almost 50,000 students in 240 schools, as well as about 500,000 Journal Sentinel Sunday subscribers. And almost 16,000 students attended our three School Day Games. Watch a video about Making Waves here .
School Day Games are scheduled for next season on Dec. 16, March 3 and March 24. To take part in the program, contact Kilee Westrick or Leah Toohey, or call (414) 224-9283.
