The Milwaukee Wave was thrilled to host the first major Futsal Tournament in the state for ages U8 – U14 in December, 2012 and January, 2013 at the US Cellular Arena. The turnout was great and the play was even better! Thanks to all of the teams for making this a fantastic tournament!
Futsal is played with a heavier, low bounce ball that helps to develop better skills and techniques for soccer players. Indoor and outdoor players from around the globe play Futsal to refine and maintain their touch and foot skills.
“We are excited to join the Wave in introducing the game of Futsal to Milwaukee,” said Jon Parry, Executive Director at U.S. Youth Futsal. “With Milwaukee’s first tournament we look forward to watching this sport grow in yet another great soccer city!”
Wave Head Coach, Keith Tozer, has been the head coach of the U.S. Futsal National Team for 16 years and has integrated Futsal into the Wave’s game plan. Current Wave stars Joe Hammes, Nick Vorberg and Nick Perera have represented the U.S. Futsal National Team. Giuliano Oliviero and Ian Bennett are members of the Canadian Futsal National Team. Marcio Leite, Jonatan Santos, Hewerton and Luan Oliveira have played professional Futsal in Brazil.
“I am extremely excited that the Milwaukee Wave and the United States Youth Futsal is partnering together to provide the soccer players of Milwaukee and Wisconsin their first major youth Futsal Tournament,” stated Tozer. “This is just the beginning of what the Milwaukee Wave will provide the soccer players of Wisconsin regarding the game of Futsal as it provides tremendous benefits in the development of our youth players.”
