On the day of the first game in the MISL Championship Series, one of the Wave’s goalkeeper, Nick Vorberg, was placed on the injured reserve and the Wave signed Ante Cop.
This signing is a special exemption to the roster freeze which took effect as of February 10th. The MISL rules state, “In the unlikely event that a team is reduced to a single “available and healthy” goalkeeper due to National Team call-up or medically-verifiable injury, the team may petition USL (MISL) in writing to be permitted to add a backup goalkeeper to their Master Roster. This may only be done in the event that at least two (2) eligible and healthy goalkeepers are under contract with the club, participating in regular team activities, not on loan with another team, and listed on the final Master Roster submitted at the time of the Roster Freeze date.”
Vorberg was injured in practice and placed on injured reserve today. Ante Cop most recently played in the MISL with the Chicago Riot. Cop will travel to Milwaukee for Sunday’s game if needed.
Milwaukee and Baltimore will face off in the best-of-three 2012 MISL Championship Series starting this Friday night at 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore (6:35 p.m. CT, MISLLive.com), with the second leg set for 3:10 p.m. CT Sunday at U.S. Cellular Arena in Milwaukee (MISLLive.com). A deciding mini-game will be played immediately following Game 2 if needed.
Tickets for Sunday’s game are available by calling the Wave office at 414.224.9283.
