After a successful home stand in which they won two in a row, the Wave head down South to face the Chicago Soul at the Sears Centre. The two teams met a few weeks back, with the Wave coming out on top 14-9.
After starting the season 1-2, the Wave have strung together multiple wins to put them at 3-2 in the standings. The first win came against the Soul, in which the team faced a 5-0 deficit at halftime, but turned things around in the second half. Tom Oatley and Nick Perera put them on the board, and then Luan Oliveira scored two in a row to give the Wave the advantage. Marcelo Fontana, who made his return to the team that night, scored, and two more goals sealed the victory. The following week the Wave defeated the Rochester Lancers 13-6. Josh Rife, Nick Perera, and Joe Hammes all had three point goals, while Marcelo Fontana scored two goals to lead the Wave in the win.
Chicago has struggled to get things going this year with a record of 2-7, including two losses since their first game against Milwaukee. The team played their home opener last week against Rochester and lost a close one. The team jumped out to an early lead, and late in the game led 11-6 thanks to a hat trick by Christian Meza. With Jeremy Ortiz in as a sixth attacker the Lancers were able to score two goals, to make it a one point game, then in the final 30 seconds Mauricio Sallas scored a game winning three point goal to hand the Soul a 13-11 loss. The Soul then went on the road to face Missouri, but it ended in a 14-11. The Soul were led by Matt Stewart’s two goals in the fourth, but Byron Alvarez had three of his own to give Missouri the win.
The Wave is taking a fan bus down to the game. For 25$ fans will receive a game ticket, plus a spot on the bus heading down to Chicago.
